I know it could have been done in a simpler way i will also share that tutorial soon.
as for the 3rd copy it is the same as 1 and 2
1 and 3 are two colored gradients , stacked over their Gaussian copies.
5th is feathered
6th is cut out shape using knife tool
I hope it makes sense .

Hello! Thank you for sharing this great tutorial! I haven't worked in illustrator for a long time so I was wondering if you could tell how you have done those 5 copies?
* I have the 1st copy - purple with guassian blur
* The 2nd with the change of gradient angle to linear (white purple)
* 3rd? The third I don't know how you did, to get blur with angle, I'm thinking of shadow drop?
* the 4th - is gradient again with radial (purple blue), is this the one to have the stroke?
I didn't find (on cs6) "line art 50 right" looking thru art brushes
* the 5th How did you do that? It seems also like a gradient with some lightening and shadow drop...
* and the 6th is the one with the feather with rounded corners.
I hope to get this tutorial done in illustrator, I'm getting tempted to finish it off in photoshop.

do you have illustrator installed if yes then try opening the file through the vector software by browsing to the file let me know if you are able as i just downloaded and opened /

No, that's what I did and it says EPS file but opens as word.

click on the image of Frames , you will get a zip file , there are two files one is EPS (opens with vector software ) and a terms of use doc . Let me know if it worked.

Hi! I started following your board. I have put a ton of time into learning Photoshop, but, have only used Illustrator, so far, for opening Ai or Eps images I want to separate. I want to learn it and, now, I think I am at as good a place as any. One thing I have realized is not a lot of people know you can even use Illustrator files in Photoshop. I post that on my blog from time to time and the response proves it! LOL
You are right that there isn't much in the line of available tuts for Illustrator. Maybe seeing more of them and actually trying them, learning will become easier. I learned so much in PS with other folks' tuts.
